Description

Jeanne of Naples, Countess of Provence, known as "Queen Jeanne", sold the town of Avignon to Clement VI, who cleared her of all suspicion when accused of the assassination of her first husband. At the time of the great schism, she in turn supported the Pope of Avignon against Urban VI. Southern Rhône Valley - north of Avignon - in the commune of Châteauneuf-duPape and 4 neighbouring villages.

Tasting Notes

Blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault

Ruby colour with purple glints. Complex nose combining mocha, cocoa, spices and leather on a background of red fruit. Notes of undergrowth and smoke emphasize the ageing. The palate is structured and powerful which makes it very good for ageing.

Serving Suggestions

Serve at 15-16°C paired with red meat, game, stew.
