Grape Blend: 96% Tempranillo (Fine red) 3% Cabernet Sauvignon 1% Merlot

'I was very pleasantly surprised by the bottled 2017 Vivaltus despite the fact that 2017 was a challenging year and was decimated by terrible frost in April that resulted in losses of up to 60% of the crop. The end of the season was warm and the harvest early, so the growing cycle was quite short. The wine is floral, perfumed, elegant and insinuating; the oak feels pretty integrated, and the palate is balanced with very good tannins'

Bodega Vivaltus, Ribera del Duero, 2017

Vintage: 2019

"The 2019 Dolio is a cuvée of Mencía, Brancellao (quite a lot here), Sousón, Caíño and Garnacha Tintorera created as a blend with the help of Telmo Rodríguez and Pablo Eguzkiza in this first vintage, but they should go much further in future years. They selected north- and west-facing vineyards to achieve more freshness in the wine, trying to reflect the huge potential of Ribeira Sacra. The full clusters were foot trodden and fermented in a troncoconic oak vat with indigenous yeasts and matured in 225-liter barrels and 2,000-liter foudres for 24 months. But the wine has no influence from the wood and is floral and perfumed. It has good grip, fine tannins, moderate ripeness and 14% alcohol, and it’s very clean and balanced, with elegance and precision. The best wine from Algueira in recent times. 6,665 bottles were filled in May 2023."

Description

Description

This 30ha estate is located in Ribeira Sacra, in the mountains of Galicia where the first vines were planted by the Romans. When Fernando Algueira took over the estate, most vineyards had been abandoned. Over the years, the team has slowly recovered them. Using only indigenous varietals, they started their project making only single varietal wines. However, in recent years, they have moved to blends.

Simply unique, Dolio is a reflection of the heritage of Ribeira Sacra. Sourced from the best vineyards from their oldest vines on the steepest slopes, the wine is partly foot trodden and fermented in a tronconic oak vat with indigenous yeasts. Matured in a mix of 225-liter barrels and 2,000-liter foudres for 21 months. Subtle aromas of nutmeg, white pepper, wild berry, savoury herbs and notes of oranges. Clean and sleek with a delicious fruit expression on the palate with integrated oak, fine tannins and an incredible freshness. It can be enjoyed right away and will keep for 10 to 15 years.
