Description

Château Angelus is a Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classe A of Saint-Emilion. Alongside Ausone, Cheval Blanc Pavie and Figeac, it is a First Growth of the Right Bank.

It has been managed by the de Bouard family, which has been in Bordeaux for over 700 years. However, the chateau as we know it today was only born in 1909, when Maurice de Bouard de La Forest purchased a parcel of vines known as L’Angelus, and named the estate as such.
The Angelus parcel is in proximity to three local churches. Those working in the vineyard hear bells throughout the day which inspired the name of the chateau, its logo and the bell sculpture on the property.

Château Angelus has a distinctive and particular style, thanks to its almost equal blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with just a hint of Cabernet Sauvignon. Its terroir of sand, clay and limestone also plays an important role in shaping its inimitable characteristics.

Tasting Notes

Blend : 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc

The 2019 Angélus bursts from the glass with a rich, dramatic nose of cherries, licorice, sweet spices and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, layered and vibrant, its broad and velvety attack segues into a layered, concentrated mid-palate that's underpinned by tangy acids and fine, powdery tannins, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. Its seamless, pure profile reflects the subtle shift chez Angélus away from the rich, toasty style of the 1990s and 2000s toward greater elegance and precision. Drink Date 2026 - 2055
