Description

Château Beau-Séjour Bécot is a prestigious Premier Grand Cru Classé estate located immediately west of the magical town of Saint-Émilion on the Saint-Martin de Mazerat limestone plateau Saint-Émilion.
Cultivated since the ancient Roman times, the estate was officially named Beauséjour in 1787 by General Jacques de Carle in commemoration for his pleasure at staying there.  Beau-Séjour  aptly meaning “Lovely Stay”.

It was acquired in 1969 by Michel Bécot, who added the family name to the estate and expanded the vineyards. Today, the property is run by the sixth generation, with Juliette Bécot and her husband spearheading modernization in the vineyard and cellars

The estate spans 22 hectares and is renowned for producing elegant, Merlot-dominant wines with remarkable purity, velvety tannins, and fresh, chalky minerality.

Tasting Notes

A terrific performance for an estate on a continuing upward trajectory, the 2020 Beau-Séjour Bécot unwinds in the glass with a deep bouquet of cherries and blackberries mingled with violets and spices. Medium to full-bodied, pure and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with a vibrant core of fruit, polished tannins and a long, sapid finish. The 2020 is a blend of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, some two-thirds of which was matured in new oak, with the balance in tanks, amphorae and foudres.
