Description

Château Pavie is a top-tier, Premier Grand Cru Classé (A) Bordeaux estate in Saint-Émilion, known for powerful, rich, and age-worthy wines from its unique limestone/clay terroir on south-east slopes, blending Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon for intense black
fruit, minerality, and structure, making it a benchmark for modern Saint-Émilion despite past stylistic debates.

The vineyard is a single 37-hectare block on three levels (plateau, mid-slope, foot) of the hill, offering diverse soils. The soils are clay-limestone on the plateau, rich brown clay-limestone on the mid-slope, and sandy/gravelly soils at the base, all over deep limestone.

The winery has ancient origins, with vines cultivated since the 4th century. Since 1998, it was under the ownership of Gérard Perse (and now his daughter ) who significantly modernized the estate. A striking, new modern winery was completed in 2013.

Tasting Notes

This opens up on your palate like a butterfly. It takes your breath away. Purity of blackberry, raspberry and black cherry. Lavender. Very, very impressive. Full and chewy with tight and polished tannins that go on and on. Energetic and structured. Crisp and vivid. Superb finish. Better after 2029 but a joy to taste.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Pavie sashays out with flamboyant notes of black and red cherries, black raspberries, and juicy plums opening out to fragrant underlying scents of forest floor, Sichuan pepper, and rose oil plus a hint of lavender. The medium to full-bodied palate is tightly wound and super-intense, delivering very fine-grained tannins and beautiful tension, finishing long and minerally. This is gorgeous!
