Description
Calon Ségur is a prestigious, Bordeaux wine estate in Saint-Estèphe appellation, famous for its elegant Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant red wines. It is classified as a Troisième Cru Classe (Third Growth) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification.
Château Calon Segur was founded in 1147 by Monseigneur de Calon, Bishop of Medoc. For 6 centuries, the estate belonged to the Segur family. Nicholas Segur, Marquis of Segur inherited Calon-Segur in the 18th century. Known as the Prince of Vines, he was also the owner of Lafite and Latour.
He famously remarked “I make my wine at Lafite & Latour, but my heart is firmly in Segur.” Hence the heart symbol on the wine label.
