Description

Chateau Prieure Lichine today started out as a priory for Benedictine monks. The monks produced wine for dinner and various religious ceremonies. Like many estates during the French Revolution, Prieure Lichine was seized, split up, and sold at auction. It was eventually promoted to Margaux 4th Classified Growth in the 1855 Imperial Classification

Having bought the estate in 1951, Alexis Lichine (A peerless winemaker and a tireless champion of the wines of Bordeaux all over the world) renamed the property Château Prieuré-Lichine in 1953. This period was to herald the renaissance of this Margaux estate

The estate has continually improved itself over the years. In 2019, the estate won a Best of d’Or Wine Tourism award. This was a proud achievement for the whole team.

Tasting Notes

The finest Prieure-Lichine I have ever tasted, the sensational 2005 has unquestionably benefitted from the improvements made at this property as well as the consultation work of Stephane Derenoncourt. Its dense purple color is accompanied by a glorious perfume of forest floor, blackberries, incense, and cassis. Opulent, with sweet tannin for the vintage, excellent purity, and a savory, broad, expansive mouthfeel that lingers on the palate, it possesses the delicacy of a terrific Margaux as well as enough concentration and power to give it an extra dimension. This wine should be drinkable in 4-5 years, and last for 25 or more. Bravo!
