Piazzo, "Sottocastello", Barolo DOCG, 2016

Piazzo is a historic family-run winery in the Langhe near Alba, Piedmont, founded in the 1960s by Armando Piazzo and Gemma Veglia who chose to invest in Nebbiolo vines when the region was still little known.

Their first wine was made in 1979, followed by their first Barolo in 1985 under the next generation. Today the estate spans about 70 ha, with roughly 60% Nebbiolo, and produces classic Piedmont wines: Barbaresco and Barolo DOCG, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba, Roero Arneis, Moscato d’Asti, Chardonnay, a Nebbiolo sparkling Massim and Merlot, blending tradition with thoughtful innovation.
